President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) President Jing Liqun on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting, according to the presidential press service.
During the meeting, the Head of State noted the AIIB's contribution to developing sustainable infrastructure and strengthening regional solidarity. Particular attention was paid to the bank's investment projects in Tajikistan. Currently, the bank is involved in four major projects worth over $430 million, including the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Station and a 920-meter-long road bridge in the Nurobod district. Following the talks, a decision was made to increase funding for the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Station to $500 million.
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of green energy, including the construction and modernization of power plants of varying capacities, as well as the commissioning of solar and wind turbines.
Particular attention was paid to projects in the field of water resources management, flood and landslide risk reduction, and the use of modern technologies for infrastructure control and monitoring.
During the talks, the parties emphasized the importance of strengthening transport integration, developing relevant infrastructure, and modernizing the country's public utilities.
Promising areas of cooperation in attracting private investment, developing innovative forms of financing, and introducing new financial instruments were also noted.
