Developing transport connectivity and modernizing international transport corridors remains a priority for cooperation among the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries. This was stated by President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, speaking at the 20th anniversary SCO summit in Tianjin, China, on September 1, 2025, according to the press service of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan.
More than 20 leaders of SCO member states participated in the summit. Following the meeting, the Tianjin Declaration of the SCO Heads of State Council was adopted. Twenty documents were signed during the summit, including an agreement to establish the SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe.
Emomali Rahmon emphasized the importance of further developing cooperation in key economic areas, including transport, transit, energy, industry, agriculture, innovation, and digitalization. "We consider it important to develop cooperation in priority economic areas, including transport and transit, energy, industry, agriculture, innovation, and digitalization," the Tajik president noted.
The Tianjin Declaration, in particular, contains a number of provisions on the development of international transport infrastructure: the modernization of existing routes and the creation of new ones, the promotion of the North-South and East-West corridors, the use of the transit potential of SCO countries, the digitalization of logistics processes, and the introduction of innovative technologies to ensure the smooth functioning of supply chains.
Furthermore, member countries confirmed the implementation of previously signed agreements and concepts to create favorable conditions for international road transport, develop efficient transport corridors, and decarbonize transport, including the digital transformation of the industry. They noted the results of joint meetings and conferences of heads of transport agencies of the SCO countries held in Moscow and Tianjin, as well as the planned meeting in Aktau in November 2025.
According to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, further strengthening transport connectivity and integration between SCO countries will contribute to increased economic efficiency in the region, the development of trade, and the sustainability of international logistics chains.
