The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan held a ceremony dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the country's independence. The ceremony was attended by the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for Economic Affairs, the ministry's leadership, and employees of the central office and subordinate agencies, according to the ministry's press service.
At the opening of the meeting, Minister Zavqizoda Z.A. warmly congratulated those present on the upcoming Independence Day, noting that all the achievements of the independence period, unity and national security, as well as the country's prosperity and beauty, are directly linked to the strong will and round-the-clock efforts of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon. Our country has achieved significant success in sustainable development and ensuring a decent standard of living for the people of our beloved Tajikistan.
In particular, despite external factors, thanks to the consistent implementation of state strategies and programs, over the 25 years of independence, the gross domestic product has grown from 1.8 billion somoni to 153.4 billion somoni, or 85 times, GDP per capita from 289 somoni to 14.8 thousand somoni, or 51 times, cash income of the population from 1 billion somoni to 147 billion somoni, or 147 times, the volume of industrial production from 1.4 billion somoni to 53.8 billion somoni, or 38 times, the volume of exports from 784 million dollars to 1947 million dollars, or 2.5 times. Since independence, the poverty rate has decreased from 83% to 20.4%, more than 2,550 km of roads have been built, more than 2,000 megawatts of new energy capacity has been built, including two units of the Rogun hydroelectric power station, 3,670 new educational institutions, and 3,076 new medical institutions have been commissioned.
As a result, international financial institutions have rated Tajikistan as a country with high rates of economic development. Over the past 20 years, and for the first time in the past five years, economic growth has exceeded 8%.
It should be noted that despite the impact of two serious global economic crises over the past five years, the country's gross domestic product has grown by 74.3 billion somoni, or 2.2 times, and reached 153.4 billion somoni in 2024. During this period, the average national economic growth rate was 7.7% (8.5% excluding 2020, the year the COVID-19 pandemic began), which is 0.7 (1.5) percentage points higher than over the previous five years (2015–2019).
In the first half of 2025, stability of macroeconomic indicators was also ensured, with GDP volume amounting to 70.8 billion somoni, and the real growth rate of 8.1%.
The growth rate of the national economy in the first half of 2025 is mainly due to an increase in industrial production by 24%, investment in fixed assets by 14.6%, paid services by 12.8%, agriculture by 9.7%, freight transportation by 9.3%, trade turnover by 9%, and passenger transportation by 5.8%.
Following the meeting, Zavkizoda Z. A. instructed the ministry's employees to maintain political and public vigilance and to constantly strive to protect and strengthen the achievements of state independence, especially ensuring the stability of macroeconomic indicators and fulfilling their professional and personal duties with even greater dedication.
At the conclusion of the event, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan on Economic Issues, N. Kh. Hikmatullozoda, and Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Z. A. Zavqizoda, presented state awards and certificates of honor of the ministry to a number of employees of the ministry and subordinate institutions for their effective work and significant contribution to the economic and social development of the country.
