The Football Federation of Tajikistan (FFT) has prematurely terminated the employment contracts of national team head coach Gela Shekiladze and Olympic U-23 team coach Levan Khomeriki. The FFT press service reported this.
The decision was made following the national teams' poor performance at international tournaments. Under Shekiladze's leadership, the national team exited the 2025 CAFA Nations Cup, held in Tajikistan, in the group stage. Specifically, a draw with Iran in the second round prevented the hosts from advancing to the playoffs.
The Tajikistan Olympic team, led by Khomeriki, suffered a 0-1 defeat to the Syrian team in the 2026 Asian Cup qualifying tournament, which also deprived them of a chance to reach the final stage of the competition.
"The Football Federation of Tajikistan thanks the coaches for their collaboration and wishes them success in their future careers," the FFT said in a statement.
The organization noted that the composition of the new coaching staff of the national team, which will prepare the team for the remaining matches of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying round, will be approved and presented to the public in the near future.
