President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met with President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Luong Cuong during the general debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the presidential administration press service reported .
During the talks, Emomali Rahmon emphasized that Tajikistan and Vietnam, despite their geographical distance, are bound by long-standing traditions of friendship and cooperation. According to the president, both countries share common interests in ensuring peace, stability, and sustainable development, and highly value the principles of friendship and partnership.
The parties discussed prospects for further strengthening political dialogue and interparliamentary and interagency cooperation. It was proposed that the foreign ministries of both countries be instructed to take practical measures to intensify cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to increasing trade turnover and expanding industrial partnerships, including in the modernization of light industry and agricultural technologies. The presidents also noted the importance of developing ties in education, healthcare, culture, and tourism.
In addition, the interlocutors exchanged views on issues of cooperation within the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other regional and international structures.
