On September 24, the Human Rights Commissioner of the Republic of Tajikistan, Umed Bobozoda, visited the YaS 3/1 correctional facility in Vahdat. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the conditions of detention of prisoners and ensure their rights are respected in accordance with national law and the country's international obligations.
During the visit, the Ombudsman inspected the living quarters, sanitary and hygienic conditions, medical care, and food provision for inmates. Particular attention was paid to the rights of foreign nationals held in the facility.
Umed Bobozoda held separate conversations with convicted citizens of Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Russia. During these conversations, some of them asked for assistance in returning to their home countries.

Following the inspection, the Ombudsman noted that the conditions of detention of prisoners in the correctional facility YaS 3/1 were deemed satisfactory and in line with the requirements of national legislation and international standards.
Issues related to further ensuring appropriate conditions of detention, compliance with legal norms, and adherence to Tajikistan's international human rights obligations were discussed with the institution's management.
