A baby was born in the US from an embryo that was frozen 30 years ago. The boy was immediately named the record holder as "the oldest child", Tengrinews.kz reports with reference to MIT Technology Review.
This story began 31 years ago with the Arched family. The couple dreamed of having children, but they couldn’t get pregnant naturally. Then Linda Arched turned to an IVF clinic, where geneticists managed to create four embryos. One was implanted in Linda, and it was decided to freeze the remaining three.
Linda carried and gave birth to the child. Her daughter is now 30 years old. And the other three embryos were stored in the clinic all these years. The woman paid for their storage every year and called them her "little hopes". Initially, she wanted to carry and give birth to them herself, but her health failed.
Linda recently enrolled in a program that allows you to give up your embryos for adoption. She spent a long time looking for a family for her future child, as she wanted him to know his sister, who was born 30 years ago, and for them to have the opportunity to maintain contact in the future.
Soon such a family was found. Spouses Lindsay and Tim Pierce were also in the program and hoped to "adopt" an embryo, since they themselves could not have children.
Linda Arched's 30-year-old embryo was successfully implanted into Lindsay Pierce's, and nine months later a healthy baby was born.
