The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported that it had gained access to data on children illegally taken from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. According to the agency, the GUR cyber specialists hacked the servers of the so-called "government" of the annexed Crimea and gained access to an extensive database.
According to information published on the official GUR page on Facebook, Ukrainian intelligence has obtained lists of abducted children , their current addresses , guardians’ data , as well as other documentation related to their “movement” from the occupied territories of the Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
GUR representative Andrey Yusov emphasized the importance of the information received, stating that it has already been passed on to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies for further response.
“This data will make it possible to establish the location of the abducted children, return them to Ukraine and bring to justice all those involved in these crimes,” he said.
According to official data from the Ukrainian authorities, as of June 1, 2025, Russia had illegally removed at least 19,546 Ukrainian children . Of this number , only 1,345 minors were returned .
Ukraine views the mass displacement of children as a war crime and genocide , insisting on an international investigation and punishment of all those responsible. The issue of deportation of Ukrainian children from the occupied territories is one of the key issues on the international agenda, including within the framework of the International Criminal Court.
The international community, including the UN, the EU and human rights organizations, have repeatedly expressed concern about the situation, demanding that Moscow immediately return the children to Ukrainian territory and allow international observers.
