On the morning of July 31, the Russian Armed Forces launched a massive missile strike on the Ukrainian capital. According to Ukrainian officials, the attack caused destruction in several districts of Kyiv, the most serious in Svyatoshinsky and Solomensky.
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA), one of the strikes hit a residential high-rise building in the Svyatoshinsky district. As a result, the building's entrance was completely destroyed, and people remain under the rubble. Rescue and emergency services are working at the scene.
According to the latest information, the death toll has reached six people , including a six-year-old boy . According to preliminary data, 52 people were injured, more than 29 of whom were hospitalized. Among the injured were nine children , as well as three police officers who were on their way to the call. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the shock wave knocked out the windows in the children's department of a medical facility.
Head of the KGVA Timur Tkachenko reported that the consequences of the morning combined attack (missiles and drones) were recorded at more than 27 locations in the capital. Residential buildings, cars, schools, kindergartens and other infrastructure facilities were damaged. In the Solomensky district, fires broke out in several apartments and in parking lots. Damage was also noted in the Goloseevsky and Shevchenkovsky districts.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the situation on social media, publishing a photo of the destroyed house:
"Kyiv. Missile strike. Right into a residential building. People under the rubble. All services on site. Russian terrorists."
According to the Ukrainian military, an air raid alert was issued in Kyiv at around 4:30 a.m. due to the threat of ballistic missiles. First, a wave of suicide drone attacks was recorded, then a missile strike. According to the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, the number of casualties may increase as search and rescue operations continue.
According to the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, two people were pulled out alive from under the rubble. It is also reported that the victim of the attack was a woman, whose body was removed by rescuers.
This is one of the largest attacks on Kyiv since the beginning of 2024. The city has been subjected to massive air strikes for the third day in a row, including strikes on civilian infrastructure and administrative buildings in other regions of the country, in particular in the Sumy and Zaporizhia regions.
