On July 12, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon commissioned an irrigation line with three vertical wells in the village of Basmanda, Vahdat jamoat, Devashtich district, the press service of the head of state reported.
The irrigation line was laid from the Basmanda area at a distance of more than 9 kilometers using pipes with a diameter of 400 millimeters. Thanks to this, the area of irrigated lands of the Khotam Kurbonov farm increased from 375 to 800 hectares.
This project was implemented at the expense of the Executive Authority of the State Authority of the Sughd Region with the aim of efficient and rational use of land. The implementation of the project will contribute to the irrigation of dry lands, the involvement of new plots in agricultural circulation and the expansion of potato crops.
With the irrigation of 500 hectares of new potato fields in the Devashtich region, 1,000 people were employed.
Emomali Rahmon instructed the industry officials to use all available resources of the country to increase potato production in the Devashtich region to 500 thousand tons by 2030, and to 1 million tons by 2050.
It was also ordered to hold a republican seminar – a meeting with the participation of industry scientists in potato farms of the Devashtich district with the aim of developing and progressing potato growing.
Agricultural producers in the Devashtich district, by developing new lands and providing irrigation to dryland areas by drilling vertical wells, have significantly increased the area of potato crops, bringing it this year to more than 800 hectares, which exceeds previously planned figures.
Emomali Rahmon was also presented with a project of new irrigated lands for the current year in Devashtich, Gorno-Matchinsky and Shakhristan districts, where potato planting has already been carried out. It was noted that due to this, the area of potato crops in Gorno-Matchinsky district increased to 1053 hectares, in Devashtich – to 816 hectares, and in Shakhristan – to 501 hectares, which is higher than the planned volumes.
Agricultural producers in these areas of the Sughd region, along with growing other agricultural crops, pay special attention to sowing and producing potatoes.
Currently, the area of potato crops in the cities and districts of the Sughd region has reached 29,716 hectares. As of July 1 of this year, 58,521 tons of potatoes have been harvested, which is 3,000 tons more than the same period last year.
During a visit to a model potato plot on the Khotam Kurbonov farm, the head of state was informed that out of 12 potato varieties grown there, 9 are domestic. In general, the largest areas of crops in the region are occupied by local varieties.
The average potato yield is 350 to 400 centners per hectare, while in some farms it reaches 650-700 centners. Judging by the appearance of the potato crop, this year's harvest in the Devashtich region is significantly higher than last year. Local farmers make a significant contribution to the production and provision of the country's farms with seed potatoes.
Emomali Rahmon, having familiarized himself with the state of potato crops in the Khotam Kurbonov farm, expressed satisfaction with the results of the shareholders’ activities and their experience in farming.
At the same place, the head of state got acquainted with the exhibition of agricultural products, including grain, vegetables and melons, potatoes, fruits, dried fruits, as well as bread and bakery products. The exposition clearly presented the fruitful and dedicated work of farmers of the Sughd region.
Emomali Rahmon emphasized the importance of rational use of arable land, involving unused areas in agricultural circulation, expanding irrigation of dry lands, producing high-yielding varieties of seeds and thereby contributing to ensuring food security of the country.
