Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told reporters that he was nominating US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and handed him a copy of the nomination letter, Interfax reports.
"Mr. President, I want to present to you a letter that I sent to the Nobel Prize committee. They have nominated you for the peace prize, which is well deserved, and you should receive it," the Israeli prime minister said.
He also said that under Trump's leadership, he believed Israel could achieve peace "with the entire Middle East."
This would include allowing the Palestinians to govern the country themselves while keeping security issues under constant Israeli control, Netanyahu explained.
Trump, speaking to reporters, said his nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize was news to him.
"Coming from you, that sounds very meaningful," he told the Israeli leader.
