On July 3, 2025, the 6th Meeting of the Heads of Ministries and Departments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Member States Responsible for Environmental Protection was held in Tianjin under the chairmanship of the Chinese side in a hybrid format on the topic "Cooperation for the Aim of Green, Sustainable and Low-Emission Development of the SCO Member States", the press service of the Organization reports.
During the discussion, the heads of delegations noted the importance of further deepening cooperation in promoting sustainable and low-emission development, and also emphasized the need to consolidate efforts to respond to common environmental challenges, including climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental pollution.

Particular attention was paid to expanding the exchange of knowledge, technologies and best practices in the field of effective waste management, including in the context of the implementation of the Statement of the SCO Council of Heads of State on Effective Waste Management.
Following the meeting, a Joint Statement was signed and an Initiative to strengthen cooperation between SCO member states in the field of sustainable development was adopted.
