In 2026, Dushanbe will host the regional conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations for Europe and Central Asia (FAO), NIAT Khovar reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan.
This was announced on July 2 during a meeting between the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Tajikistan, Kurbon Hakimzoda, and the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu. The meeting took place within the framework of the 44th conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
The parties discussed the issues of organizing a corner of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome, taking into account national architectural art, accelerating the process of submitting an official document on the inclusion of the Hissar sheep breed and the Taifi grape variety in the “System of Cultural Heritage of Global Importance”, supporting the initiatives of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of water and climate, ensuring food security, monitoring and accelerating the process of implementing the issue of importing yaks from Mongolia to Tajikistan.
The parties also exchanged views on the leading role of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in attracting funds from the Green Climate Fund and other investment funds, strengthening cooperation in the areas of locust control, biodiversity protection, supporting FAO initiatives in the country and other issues.
