South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is in favor of resuming dialogue with Pyongyang, but admits that this is difficult to do at the moment, Interfax reports.
"We must improve relations with North Korea based on clear coordination with the United States," Lee Jae-myung was quoted as saying at a press conference by Renhap News Agency.
South Korea's president acknowledged there were challenges to resuming dialogue with the North, but expressed hope that Seoul's recent suspension of propaganda broadcasts on the border with the North could help restore ties.
"When we decided to suspend the loudspeaker broadcasts to North Korea, I was concerned about how quickly and how they would react. But North Korea's reaction was very fast and exceeded expectations," Lee Jae-myung said.
"We will resume inter-Korean communication and pave the way for peace and coexistence on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and cooperation," he added.
Pyongyang on June 12 suspended the broadcast of propaganda over loudspeakers toward the South in the area of the border between the two countries.
Earlier, Seoul took the same step to improve bilateral relations.
