An attempt to illegally import a large consignment of drugs from Afghanistan has been prevented in the Shamsiddin-Shokhin district of the Republic of Tajikistan. This was reported by NIAT "Khovar" with reference to the Public Relations Center of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan.
According to the department, on the night of July 1 of this year, a group of Afghan citizens, allegedly connected with transnational criminal circles, crossed the state border in the area of the village of Kishti in the rural jamoat of Nuriddin Makhmudov. The group consisted of four people and was led by a 50-year-old resident of Afghan Badakhshan – Azarkhon, the son of Saidumir.
The purpose of the illegal entry into Tajikistan was to transport a large consignment of narcotic substances.
As a result of operational actions by the State Committee for National Security of the Khatlon Region and servicemen of the Border Outpost No. 5 "Khirmandzho" of the Border Troops, the route of movement of the violators was established. After surrounding the criminals in the border zone, they were asked to surrender voluntarily. However, the violators opened fire on law enforcement officers with automatic weapons.
In the return fire, the group's leader Azarkhon and his accomplice Azizi Rozmuhammad, about 30 years old, also a native of Afghan Khokhon, were neutralized. The other two members of the group, taking advantage of the moment, fled to Afghanistan. Currently, measures are being taken to search for them and establish their identities.
During the inspection of the crime scene, the following was seized:
-
two Kalashnikov assault rifles with magazines and 17 rounds of ammunition;
-
night vision device;
-
one rubber boat;
-
three bags of drugs.
According to the results of the examination conducted by the forensic examination department of the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan for the Khatlon region, the seized substances include:
-
57 kilograms 515 grams of opium-type drugs,
-
960 grams of the drug "methamphetamine".
The total weight of the seized narcotics was 58 kilograms 475 grams.
Based on this fact, the Investigative Department of the State Committee for National Security of the Khatlon Region has opened a criminal case on the grounds of crimes under:
-
Art. 195, part 2 (illegal crossing of the state border),
-
Art. 200, Part 4, Item “d” (drug smuggling on an especially large scale),
-
Art. 289, Part 3 (illegal circulation of weapons and ammunition),
-
Art. 335, part 2 (disobedience to the lawful demands of law enforcement officers) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Law enforcement agencies continue operational and investigative activities to detain the absconding members of the criminal group and establish their possible connections in Tajikistan.
The State Committee for National Security emphasizes that ensuring the protection of the state border, protecting the interests of sovereignty, national security and the health of citizens are the state's priority tasks. Combating drug trafficking and transnational crime remains the most important area of activity for the country's law enforcement agencies.
The agency calls on residents of border areas to be vigilant, patriotic and actively assist law enforcement agencies in identifying suspicious individuals and attempts to illegally cross the border. As noted by the State Committee for National Security, the defense of the Motherland is the sacred duty of every citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan.
