In the city of Lijiang in Yunnan Province /Southwest China/, a "flower economy" is flourishing, Renmin Ribao reports, citing the Huanquan website.
Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,300 m above sea level, Lijiang has unique climatic conditions for growing roses: more than 2,400 hours of sunshine per year, little seasonal temperature variation with significant differences between day and night, and distinct dry and wet seasons.
The authorities of Gucheng District of Lijiang decided to use the local natural advantages to develop high-mountain flower growing. In the Lijiang Modern Flower Industry Park, smart greenhouses with a total area of 350,000 square meters were built. Cut roses are grown on an area of 340,000 square meters, and calla lilies occupy another 10,000 square meters.
Since the start of production in August 2020, the park has produced almost 100 million stems of cut flowers. The development of the flower industry has provided jobs for 300 people who can now work close to home.
