As part of the annual meeting of the Islamic Development Bank Group, held in Algiers, a meeting was held between the official delegation of the Republic of Tajikistan headed by the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, the authorized representative of the IDB from Tajikistan Zavqizoda Zavqi Amin and the Executive Director of the Saudi Fund for Development Sultan Abdulrahman, the press service of the ministry reported .
During the meeting, the parties discussed the progress of the implementation of the agreements reached following the meeting of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon with representatives of the Fund, which took place on December 4, 2023. In particular, attention was paid to the promotion of key investment projects in the fields of education, energy and transport.
Zavqizoda emphasized the strategic importance of the Fund's support for the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power station, within the framework of which Tajikistan received a soft loan of 100 million US dollars. He expressed confidence that the participation of the Saudi fund in the implementation of this project will contribute to strengthening the country's energy independence and achieving national sustainable development goals.





The parties also touched upon the topic of expanding bilateral cooperation in such areas as road construction, healthcare, water supply and support for small and medium-sized businesses. Representatives of the Tajik side called for attracting additional funds to finance these areas.
The Executive Director of the Saudi Fund for Development, in turn, expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and confirmed the Fund's readiness to increase financial support for new priority initiatives. He noted that as part of the development of the Guliston-Kulyab highway construction project, he plans to visit Tajikistan on July 3-4 this year.
Since the beginning of cooperation with Tajikistan, the Saudi Fund for Development has provided more than US$325 million for the implementation of 14 projects in key sectors of the economy, including energy, education, healthcare and transport.
The official delegation of Tajikistan also included the First Deputy Minister of Finance, Alternate Administrator of the IDB from Tajikistan Yusuf Majidi, First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank Firuz Sharifzoda and Chairman of the State Unitary Enterprise PPEB "Sanoatsodirotbank" Khokimshoh Bobozoda.
Negotiations between the Tajik delegation and representatives of international financial institutions within the framework of the IDB Group meeting continue.
