On May 15, 2025, a working meeting was held in Dushanbe between the Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Colonel General Rajabali Rahmonali, and the Military Attaché of the Embassy of the United States of America in Tajikistan, Lieutenant Colonel Matthew P. Walter, the press service of the Committee reported.

During the conversation, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of civil defense, emergency response, training of specialists and provision of humanitarian aid.
Colonel General Rajabali Rahmonali expressed appreciation for the active cooperation and contribution of the US Embassy to the development of the Committee’s capacity, and also emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the context of growing risks associated with climate change and natural disasters.
The US military attaché, in turn, noted the significant progress achieved within the framework of joint projects. He emphasized that such meetings provide an opportunity to discuss in more depth promising areas of cooperation – from conducting joint exercises and exchanging experience to joint preparation of response strategies.
“We have every opportunity to build on what has already been achieved to develop cooperation and strengthen security both in Tajikistan and in the broader regional context,” said Lieutenant Colonel Walter.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on the following areas of cooperation:
- Organization of training courses on mountaineering, medical training and first aid;
- Development of infrastructure for rapid response to emergency situations;
- Construction of new buildings for regional units of the Emergency Situations Committee;
- Creation of reserve warehouses in remote areas of the country;
- Provision of technical means and specialized equipment;
- Formation of mobile rapid response teams working with the population;
- Conducting trainings at the Training Center in Karatag;
- Training of trainers and implementation of a program for improving the qualifications of personnel.
