In the Khatlon region of Tajikistan, 449 cases of divorce were registered in the first three months of 2025, which is 112 cases less than in the same period last year. Such data is provided by the regional Department of Justice.
The authorities attribute the decrease in the number of divorces to active explanatory work aimed at raising awareness among the population, in particular young people. The events are carried out by employees of the Department of Social Protection of the Population together with other departments of the region.
Moreover, the number of registered marriages in the first three months of this year amounted to more than 7.3 thousand cases – this is 455 more than in the first quarter of 2024, when about 6.8 thousand marriages were registered.
It was previously reported that the ban on lavish wedding celebrations introduced in Tajikistan helped to significantly reduce the number of livestock ritually slaughtered. If in 2006, over 500 thousand heads of cattle were slaughtered at ceremonies, then in 2024 this figure dropped to approximately 73 thousand heads. Thanks to these measures, the livestock population in the country almost doubled to 9.2 million heads, the Jumhuriyat publication noted.
