Tajik police officers have detained two residents of the Jaloliddin Balkhi district suspected of committing a series of cattle thefts, the Interior Ministry's Khatlon Region Department reported .
"Based on the statements received by the internal affairs bodies from citizens about the theft of their cattle, employees of the internal affairs department for the Jaloliddin Balkhi district, during operational and investigative activities, identified and detained two suspects. They turned out to be Atoyev Shamsiddin, born in 1980, and Khakimov Halim, born in 1983, both living in the Jaloliddin Balkhi district," the press service clarified.
According to the investigation, the detainees acted by prior agreement. At night, taking advantage of the absence of people on the territory of farms and private households, they stole cattle and subsequently sold it in other areas.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs specified that the criminal actions of the attackers caused major material damage to the livestock owners in the total amount of approximately 117 thousand somoni (equivalent to approximately 10 thousand US dollars).
"The investigation established that Atoyev Shamsiddin was involved in six episodes of cattle theft, and his accomplice Khakimov Khalim was involved in two cases of similar crimes committed in the Jaloliddin Balkhi, Jaykhun and Dusti districts," the department added.
A criminal case has been opened against the detainees under Article 244, Part 3 (theft committed on a large scale or by a group of persons by prior agreement) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. Further investigative actions are currently underway.
