On May 12, 2025, two drowning incidents occurred in Tajikistan. One of them ended in tragedy, and the second – in a successful rescue, the press service of the Emergency Situations Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan reports.
On May 12, a 22-year-old young man who was temporarily residing on Nemat Karabayev Street in the Firdavsi district drowned in Dushanbe. At approximately 1:00 p.m., for unknown reasons, he ended up in the Dushanbe River and drowned. The body of the deceased was found in the area of the former Sultoni Kabir market. Rescuers from the Special Rapid Response Unit arrived at the scene at 4:24 p.m., pulled the body out of the water and handed it over to law enforcement officers. According to preliminary data, the deceased was a native of the Balandi jamoat of the Muminobod district, but at the time of the incident he was temporarily in the capital of Tajikistan.
On the same day, at approximately 19:15, an 18-year-old girl almost drowned in the Syr Darya River in the city of Khujand. While swimming in the river, she inadvertently found herself in a dangerous situation. However, thanks to the prompt actions of the Sughd Region Emergency Situations Committee rescuers, the girl was saved and taken to a safe place.
In connection with the incidents that have occurred, the Emergency Situations Committee of Tajikistan reminds citizens of safety measures when near water bodies. Experts strongly recommend swimming only in specially equipped places where it is possible to ensure safety, and not to leave children unattended near the water. Swimming at night and in bad weather conditions, as well as in a state of fatigue or alcohol intoxication is strictly prohibited.
