On May 12, 2025, the 8th meeting of heads of territorial bodies for emergency situations of border areas of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states was held in Shanghai. The event was held in a hybrid format under the chairmanship of the People's Republic of China, the press service of the Organization reports.
The event was attended by representatives of relevant bodies of the SCO member states, as well as delegates from Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates and the Beijing Office of the United Nations Space Information Programme for Emergencies and Disaster Response (UN-SPIDER).
The issues of strengthening cooperation in the area of preventing and eliminating the consequences of emergency situations in border areas, increasing readiness to respond to cross-border risks, improving mechanisms for exchanging information and conducting joint exercises were discussed.
The participants confirmed their commitment to further developing practical cooperation, exchanging experience and best practices in the field of civil defense, and expressed their readiness to increase coordination of efforts within the framework of regional response mechanisms.
