US President Donald Trump said on the Truth Social social network that he would sign "one of the most important executive orders in US history" that would reduce the cost of prescription drugs by 30-80 percent across the country, Tengrinews.kz reports.
In his statement, the US leader noted that Americans have been overpaying significantly for prescription drugs for decades, while in neighboring countries the same drugs, produced in the same factories, cost five to ten times less.
"The drug companies have been saying for years that these are R&D costs and that these costs have been and will be borne, for no good reason, by America's 'suckers.' We are going to do the right thing, which Democrats have fought for for years. So I am pleased to announce that tomorrow morning at the White House at 9:00 a.m., I will sign one of the most important executive orders in the history of our country. Prescription drug and pharmaceutical prices will be reduced almost immediately by 30 to 80 percent," the US president wrote.
He noted that drug prices will rise around the world to equalize the cost of medicines.
"I will institute a Most Favored Nation policy, whereby the United States will pay the same price as the country that pays the lowest price in the world. Our country will finally be treated fairly, and our citizens' health care costs will be reduced by amounts never before thought possible," Trump concluded.
