In the city of Khujand, the administrative center of the Sughd region of Tajikistan, celebratory events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War were held. The main celebration took place at the Memorial to Fallen Soldiers, where veterans, representatives of the authorities, security forces, the diplomatic corps, public organizations and youth gathered.

The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Sughd Region, Rajabboy Akhmadzoda, who read out a congratulatory address on behalf of the regional executive authority. He noted that Victory Day will forever remain a symbol of patriotism, courage and unity of the peoples who fought for the freedom of humanity.
— More than 300 thousand sons of Tajikistan participated in the Great Patriotic War. Of these, 92 thousand did not return from the battlefield. The highest award — the title of Hero of the Soviet Union — was awarded to 54 people, including 15 natives of Sogd, — said Akhmadzoda, referring to the statements of the head of state Emomali Rahmon.

According to the chairman, in honor of the Victory anniversary, financial assistance was allocated from the regional budget: war veterans were paid 15 thousand somoni, and home front workers – 8 thousand. Heads of cities and districts, as well as representatives of the business community, also joined in the financial support.
After the official part, a ceremonial military parade took place with the participation of servicemen and law enforcement officers. The event ended with a ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal Flame and a minute of silence in memory of the fallen.
