The Russian army continued to attack along the entire front line, despite the three-day ceasefire declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga. "As expected, Putin's "ceremonial ceasefire" turned out to be a farce. <…> From midnight to noon, Russia carried out 734 ceasefire violations and 63 assault operations, 23 of which are still ongoing," Sybiga wrote on his social media page. According to him, the Russian army carried out a total of 586 attacks on positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), 464 of which involved the use of heavy weapons. There were also 176 FPV drone strikes and 10 airstrikes using 16 guided aerial bombs.
Sybiha noted that all information on ceasefire violations will be passed on to the US, EU and other international partners of Kiev. "Ukraine remains ready for at least a 30-day full ceasefire and confidence-building measures that will allow for peace talks and a real path to a fair and sustainable peace," concluded the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. At the same time, as servicemen of several units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces told the Suspilne publication, they received orders to open only return fire during the ceasefire. According to them, the command gave the same order during the "Easter ceasefire" in April.
The Russian Defense Ministry also reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire. "Along the entire line of combat contact, Ukrainian units carried out 173 attacks from barrel artillery, tanks and mortars on positions of our troops, as well as 4 using multiple launch rocket systems," the military department noted. According to its data, 300 strikes and ammunition drops from unmanned aerial vehicles were carried out. In total, the Russian side recorded 488 ceasefire violations. In addition, the Russian Defense Ministry reported two attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through the state border into the Kursk region.
The unilateral ceasefire declared by Putin in honor of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War is to last from midnight on May 8 to midnight on May 11. Ukraine has not officially joined the ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv does not support a ceasefire for only three days and proposes establishing it for 30 days. However, Russia did not agree to this.
