A group of ophthalmologists from Germany carried out a number of complex operations and training events for Tajik specialists as part of bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare. This was reported by the press center of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan.
As specified by the department, within the framework of the agreement between the Tajik State Medical University named after Abu Ali ibn Sino and the University of Ophthalmology "Münch-Med" (Germany), from April 27 to May 2, German doctors performed 26 high-tech ophthalmological operations at the National Medical Center "Shifobakhsh". These included cataract interventions using the phacoemulsification method, implantation of an artificial lens and antiglaucoma procedures.
In addition to the operations, German specialists conducted four trainings on current areas of ophthalmology – glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and refractive errors. More than 100 Tajik ophthalmologists took part in the training.
At a meeting with the German Ambassador to Tajikistan, York Schugraff, Health Minister Jamoliddin Abdullozoda expressed gratitude for assistance in developing medical cooperation and emphasized the importance of support from the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Development Bank.
