On the night of July 8, Russian forces launched combined strikes against several regions of Ukraine using missiles and drones. Explosions rocked Kyiv and Kharkiv, among other areas. The attacks resulted in one death, injuries, and damage to buildings.
Explosions and fires were reported in Kyiv during an air raid. Initially, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported two casualties, one of whom was hospitalized. City authorities later clarified that one person had died as a result of the Russian strike.
According to Kyiv authorities, attack drones were approaching the capital. Simultaneously, reports were received of the use of ballistic missiles.
In Kyiv's Desnyansky district, warehouses caught fire after a missile hit. In the Svyatoshinsky district, a fire broke out in an uninhabited building.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported the launch of several ballistic missiles toward Kyiv from the north. An air raid alert was issued in the city.
Strikes also struck Kharkiv. Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov reported a missile strike in the Nemyshlyansky district.
According to preliminary reports, two people were injured in the attack. More than 20 private homes were damaged.
Additionally, church windows, street lighting, and five cars were damaged. The extent of the damage is being determined.
Ukrainian military officials reported that a Russian missile and drone attack hit Kyiv, Kharkiv, and several central and eastern regions of the country overnight.
Amid ongoing attacks, air raid alerts have been issued in several regions of Ukraine. Local authorities and emergency services continue to determine the aftermath of the strikes and verify casualty figures.
