On May 25, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, met with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, the press service of the head of state reported.
During the meeting, issues of cooperation between Tajikistan and this authoritative international organization were discussed.

Head of State Emomali Rahmon welcomed the distinguished guest to Tajikistan, who arrived to participate in the Fourth International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action, "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028," and expressed gratitude for the Inter-Parliamentary Union's active engagement with Tajikistan on water resources and climate change.
As noted, the Inter-Parliamentary Union today serves as an effective platform for promoting peace initiatives and addressing global issues around the world.
The role of parliamentary diplomacy was also emphasized as an important tool for strengthening relations between states in matters of transparency, the sustainability of democratic principles, ensuring sustainable development and other international norms.
A substantive exchange of views also took place on issues of peaceful settlement of contemporary global conflicts.
