On the night of May 14, Russia launched a massive air strike on Kyiv using missiles and drones. Explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital, fires broke out, and residential and commercial buildings were damaged. According to the latest reports, one person was killed and 32 others were injured, including a one-month-old child.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, 20 people remain hospitalized, including one child.
The most severe damage was reported in the Darnytskyi district in southeastern Kyiv, where a multi-story residential building partially collapsed. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, rescuers managed to evacuate 27 people. The search and rescue operation is ongoing; there may be more people trapped under the rubble.
Additionally, rescuers are extinguishing a five-car fire in the courtyard of a residential building at another address. Rescue efforts are also continuing in the Obolonskyi, Darnytskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts of the capital.
According to city authorities, a drone crash in the Dniprovskyi district ignited the roof of a five-story residential building and damaged a private home. In northern Kyiv, debris struck an apartment on the 12th floor of a residential building, causing a fire.
In the Shevchenkivskyi, Solomianskyi, and Obolonskyi districts, non-residential buildings were damaged. In the Solomianskyi district, a car caught fire in a parking lot near a business center. In the Darnytskyi district, a fire broke out at a gas station, and hardscape elements also burned. In the Holosiivskyi district, debris fell on a business center and the roadway.
The Ukrainian Air Force also reported attacks on other regions of Ukraine. According to them, missiles, drones, and guided bombs were fired at the Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Donetsk, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy regions.
The day before, on May 13, Russian forces launched 892 drones into Ukrainian territory. According to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 710 of them were destroyed or suppressed by air defense systems. For the first time since the beginning of the war, Uzhhorod, the administrative center of the Zakarpattia region, came under attack, where explosions also rocked the area.
