In Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiev, the younger brother of the former head of the State Committee for National Security, and Shairbek Tashiev, a former member of the Zhogorku Kenesh, have been detained on suspicion of corruption, 24.kg reported, citing the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the agency, a criminal case has been opened against the former deputy for corruption at Kyrgyzneftegaz OJSC. The case was initiated based on the results of an audit of the company's operations, as well as materials from the State Tax Service. No further details were provided.
Shairbek Tashiev was placed in the temporary detention facility of the Main Department of Internal Affairs of Bishkek.
Earlier, on March 13, it was reported that he had been summoned for questioning by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but the investigative authorities did not specify the case or his status.
The following day, it was announced that the Zhogorku Kenesh deputy had voluntarily resigned his mandate. He stated that this decision was made in the interests of the state and the people's trust. He also stated that false information about him and his family had recently been spread on social media.
On March 19, former head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev was also summoned for questioning by the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. According to media reports, the interrogation lasted approximately five hours, after which he signed a non-disclosure agreement.
According to several Kyrgyz media reports, the case may be related to the activities of Kyrgyzneftegaz, where multi-million dollar violations have been identified.
