The United States plans to review its relationship with NATO after the conflict with Iran ends, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced, Interfax reports.
He said Washington may have to reassess whether the alliance serves the country's interests. He noted that NATO has long served the United States, but now the question arises whether it continues to fulfill that function.
Rubio said the alliance could become a "one-way street" in which the United States provides security for Europe but faces denials from allies, including basing and overflight permissions.
He stressed that such questions are justified and require discussion.
According to the Secretary of State, the final decision on revising the alliance's role will have to be made by US President Donald Trump.
