On January 16, 2026, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the UN Jonibek Hikmat met with Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (LLDCs) Rabab Fatima. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on strengthening coordination and solidarity among landlocked countries in the context of ongoing reforms of the United Nations system. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the Avaza Action Framework. Participants also emphasized the importance of Tajikistan's initiatives on global political platforms, including the growing importance of issues related to glacier conservation and sustainable water resource management.
Following the meeting, Tajikistan's Permanent Representative Jonibek Hikmat conveyed to the UN Deputy Secretary-General an official invitation to participate in the Fourth Dushanbe Water Conference, which will be held from 25 to 28 May 2026.
