China's ecological environment will improve in 2025 thanks to continuous efforts to combat pollution and promote sustainable green development, official data showed Thursday.
The average PM2.5 concentration in the country last year was 28 micrograms per cubic meter, down 4.4 percent year-on-year, according to the 2026 National Environmental Protection Working Conference.
The proportion of days with good or excellent air quality over the past year increased by 1.9 percentage points year-on-year to 89.3 percent.
In 2025, the share of surface water at class III or higher according to the five-level water quality control system in the country amounted to 91.4 percent, which is 1 percentage point more than the previous year.
The share of coastal waters rated as good or excellent quality was 84.9%, which is 1.2 percentage points more than in the previous year.
The Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China has outlined its key tasks for the current year, including promoting environmental pollution prevention, strengthening supervision over ecological conservation and restoration, and accelerating scientific and technological innovation in the environmental field.
