A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Tajikistan on the night of January 9. The epicenter of the seismic event was in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in the east of the country.
According to the Seismic Forecasting Monitoring Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan, which monitors seismic activity in Central Asia, the tremors were recorded at 2:14 a.m. Dushanbe time. Residents of Tajikistan's capital, Dushanbe, felt brief, low-intensity tremors lasting only a few seconds.
There are currently no reports of casualties or damage. Emergency services continue to monitor the situation in the region.
