As a result of Russian strikes on energy infrastructure, power was almost completely cut off in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine. This was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, as well as representatives of local authorities and relevant agencies.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, attacks on critical energy facilities have triggered emergency power outages in two regions. The ministry clarified that the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions were "almost completely" without power.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that power supply restrictions are in effect in the region. He added that specialists from the Zaporizhzhiaoblenergo company are working to restore and stabilize the power grid. Due to the power outage, water supplies and medical facilities have been switched to generators. Critical infrastructure continues to function.
Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council Chairman Mykola Lukashuk warned that large-scale power outages could lead to disruptions in mobile phone service. He also noted that air raid sirens may not work in some areas.
Ukraine's Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksiy Kuleba, reported that restoration work is ongoing in the city of Dnipro and several other towns in the Dnipropetrovsk region. He stated that repair crews are working in an enhanced mode, taking into account the security situation, to restore heat and water to residents as quickly as possible. He also noted that in Zaporizhzhia, water supply has been restored using alternative power sources.
Despite widespread power outages, train service in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions remained uninterrupted. This was reported by Oleksiy Kuleba, who emphasized that Ukrzaliznytsia is responding promptly to the situation. He added that trains in the affected regions have been switched to backup diesel locomotive traction, and signaling and communication systems continue to operate on backup power sources.
