US President Donald Trump said Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife had been captured and taken out of the country.
In a post on his platform, Truth Social, Trump stated that the operation was conducted "in cooperation with U.S. law enforcement." The US President added that details of the operation would be released later.
Information about the exact location of Maduro and his wife, as well as the further actions of the Venezuelan and US authorities, has not yet been provided.
Trump's statement came amid reports of US military activity in Venezuela, including strikes on the capital Caracas and other military targets in the country, which were recorded earlier on the night of January 3.
