US President Donald Trump received the FIFA Peace Prize at the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, Interfax reports.
"I'd like to thank my family and my wonderful first lady. Thank you, Melania," Trump said as he accepted the award.
The award announcement video emphasized that the US President is receiving the award, in particular, for his efforts to end several armed conflicts around the world, as well as for his ongoing efforts to end the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
The FIFA Peace Prize was established in 2025, and Trump became its first laureate.
Trump has repeatedly stated his desire to win the Nobel Peace Prize, but was unable to receive it this year. His supporters argue that the peace agreement between Israel and Gaza makes him the most deserving candidate for 2026.
