The partridge, which received the most votes, has been declared "Bird of the Year 2026" in Tajikistan. Next year, environmental and educational events, as well as conservation campaigns, will be dedicated to this bird, according to the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan.
The goal of the "Bird of the Year" competition is not simply to select a symbol, but to serve as an important environmental education and conservation program. The competition allows the public to gain more information about birds and fosters a caring and respectful attitude toward nature.
In Tajikistan, the partridge is considered one of the most beautiful birds, distinguished by its keen observation and wariness. The Tajik people have extensive experience in partridge breeding and hunting, and they also have numerous beliefs, folklore, and customs associated with this bird.
The Bird of the Year competition has been held in Tajikistan since 2008 with the participation and on the recommendation of specialists from the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan in collaboration with the Public Organization "Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Tajikistan".
The selection of one of Tajikistan's rare birds as "Bird of the Year" aims to restore and increase its population in the wild, contribute to the creation of favorable conditions for its reproduction, and a wider representation of the selected species.
