The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Tajikistan signed three grant agreements aimed at strengthening resilience to natural disasters, ensuring food security, and improving the business environment, according to the ADB press service.
The signing ceremony took place on December 2 in Dushanbe. The documents were signed by Tajikistan's Minister of Finance, Fayziddin Qahhorzoda, and ADB Country Director for Tajikistan, Ko Sakamoto. The total grant amount is $95.2 million. The funds were approved by ADB this year and are intended to strengthen the country's resilience to natural disasters, digitalize livestock production, create green jobs, and develop sustainable businesses.
Specifically, the Multi-Level Financing Facility for Disaster Relief provides $28.2 million in grants, including $3.3 million from the Asia-Pacific Climate Fund. The program aims to strengthen Tajikistan's financial preparedness for natural disasters through a combination of budget support and the issuance of disaster bonds.
The "Digital Agricultural Management for Improving Food Security" project includes $17 million in grants, $3 million of which is provided by the Japan Fund for a Prosperous and Sustainable Asia and the Pacific. The project aims to digitalize and modernize livestock farming, which will increase farm incomes and improve access to nutritious food.
In addition, the Climate Resilient Business Environment Program provides a $50 million grant. The funds will support structural reforms aimed at economic diversification, improving fiscal management and transparency, accelerating digital transformation, and enhancing Tajikistan's competitiveness in regional and global markets.
