In the Irkutsk region, police and FSB officers have shut down an illegal migration channel through which more than 1,500 Central Asian citizens were illegally legalized, reported Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs spokesperson Irina Volk.
According to the agency, a local resident organized the illegal business, recruiting accomplices from among property owners. The suspects offered foreigners fictitious registration at their place of residence and also entered into fictitious civil contracts necessary for extending their temporary stay in Russia. The cost of these services ranged from 1,000 to 5,000 rubles.
With the participation of Rosgvardia officers, six women were detained, and during the searches, foreign citizen passports, migration document forms and contracts, as well as communication equipment, were confiscated.
A criminal case has been opened under Part 2 of Article 322.1 of the Russian Criminal Code (organizing illegal migration). Three defendants have been placed under travel restrictions, and the others have been ordered to appear. The illegally issued documents will be revoked, and the foreign citizens will be subject to deportation from Russia.
The investigation continues to look for other episodes of illegal activity and possible accomplices.
