In order to fulfill the instructions of the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon regarding the timely and loss-free harvesting, reception, and processing of cotton produced by farmers, the Prime Minister of the country, Kokhir Rasulzoda, made a working visit to the Khatlon region, the Information Service of the Chairman of the Khatlon region reported .
During his visit, the Prime Minister, along with Khatlon Region Chairman Davlatali Said, visited the Zarrin Agrarian Union LLC in the Khuroson district. The company is reportedly one of the largest cotton processing plants in the district, established during the country's independence and beginning operations in 2014.
The plant's seasonal capacity is up to 30,000 tons, and to date, it has received 26,400 tons of raw cotton from partner farms. The plant operates in two shifts, processing 300 to 400 tons of raw material and producing 110 to 150 tons of high-quality fiber.
The plant is equipped with modern Chinese equipment, and its products meet global market requirements. The enterprise employs 120 local seasonal workers who receive competitive wages. The Prime Minister instructed the plant's management to strengthen cooperation with the region's cotton growers and ensure timely procurement of harvested cotton.
Farmers in the Khuroson District sowed cotton on 2,782 hectares this year. Thanks to compliance with agricultural requirements, 7,982.9 tons of cotton were produced, representing 114% of the planned volume. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to effectively utilize favorable weather conditions and existing opportunities to complete the harvest and improve the socioeconomic status of farms through the resulting income.
During his visit, the Prime Minister visited the Kushoniyon district and Navbahor jamoat, where he inspected the activities of the Yormukhammad farm. The farm is reportedly engaged in cotton and vegetable growing and has 7 hectares of irrigated land. Permanent greenhouses operate on 14 acres of land, and seedlings are grown on 27 acres, including tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, and sweet and hot peppers.
The greenhouses are equipped with modern Italian equipment, and the farmers use cutting-edge agricultural technologies, providing seedlings not only to the local population but also exporting their produce beyond the region. This is the second year the farm has been growing eggplants, using high-yielding varieties adapted to the climate. The Prime Minister praised the work of the farmers and shareholders, emphasizing the need to continue using modern agricultural technologies and high-yielding seeds.
The Prime Minister also visited the Iftikhori Vatan LLC cotton processing plant, which processed over 4,000 tons of raw cotton. Farmers in the Kushoniyon district have sowed 10,195 hectares of cotton, producing 23,500 tons of raw cotton to date.
The guests visited the Makhsumi Sangi Kulula farm, where the Laima cotton variety is sown on 7 hectares, with a yield of 46 centners per hectare.
In the Jaloliddin Balkhi district, the Prime Minister inspected the operations of Elit-Koton LLC, which received over 3,000 tons of cotton harvested by farmers in the district. The company's management was instructed to promptly receive and purchase the cotton produced and create incentives for farmers.
The Prime Minister visited the Murat farm, where lemons are grown in permanent greenhouses on 14 hectares of irrigated land and 2 hectares of land; farmers are currently harvesting the crop.
The Prime Minister also inspected the progress of construction of a state-owned sports school in the Jaloliddin Balkhi district. Construction began in 2023, with funding provided by the district's executive authorities. To date, work worth 1.6 million somoni has been completed. Instructions were given to ensure construction complies with urban planning and architectural requirements. The building, designed to accommodate 700 students, is scheduled to open in 2026.
The main goal of the Prime Minister's working visit is to implement the President's instructions on the timely harvest of cotton.
Cotton growers in Khatlon Region have reportedly completed the planned harvest. This year, over 254,000 tons of cotton have been harvested from 108,265 hectares, 127,000 tons more than last year.
