The 5th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on economic, trade, investment, technical, and cultural issues was held as part of the Dushanbe-Invest-2025 International Investment Forum, NIAT Khovar reports .
The meeting was co-chaired by Sulton Rahimzoda, Chairman of the State Committee on Investment and State Property Management of Tajikistan, and Khalid Al-Foleh, Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia . The meeting discussed current issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of economics, entrepreneurship and investment, trade, energy, industry, education, tourism, culture, and artificial intelligence.
The parties expressed interest in further developing trade, economic, and investment cooperation and implementing projects in various economic sectors. Particular attention was paid to attracting Saudi investment in the light and textile industries, tourism, pharmaceuticals, construction materials production, mineral processing, and energy.
During the meeting, it was noted that the launch of the Dushanbe-Jeddah-Dushanbe flight serves as an example of effective cooperation between the two countries and contributes to the development of the tourism industry and the strengthening of economic ties. Participants emphasized the need to intensify the activities of the Tajik-Saudi Business Council , established in 2024.
Sulton Rahimzoda noted that trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia is at a high level. He emphasized that relations at the leadership level of the two countries are very strong, laying the foundation for the further development of economic, cultural, and social cooperation. Saudi Arabia was one of the first countries to provide financial support for the implementation of a major energy project in Tajikistan— the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Station . The Saudi Fund for Development (SFID) contributed an initial $100 million to this project, which has become a shining example of cooperation between the countries. Furthermore, the SFID has financed a number of priority projects and is actively involved through the Islamic Development Bank in the implementation of the CASA-1000 regional project, representing a significant contribution by Saudi Arabia to the Tajik economy.
Saudi Arabia's Minister of Investment , Khalid Al-Foleh, noted Saudi Arabia's interest in expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation with Tajikistan. He emphasized the numerous opportunities for developing cooperation between the countries, the effective use of which is in the interests of both sides.
Following the meeting , the Protocol of the 5th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was signed, as well as two memoranda of cooperation in priority areas aimed at strengthening the prospects for trade and economic cooperation between the countries.
It should be noted that a high-ranking delegation from Saudi Arabia, including representatives of the public and private sectors, as well as leading Saudi companies, headed by Investment Minister Khalid Al-Folih, arrived in Tajikistan to participate in the International Investment Forum "Dushanbe-Invest-2025" , which started on October 14.
