Sheralizoda Bakhodur, Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan, met with Naoufel Telaig, Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and Central Asia of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The Committee's press service reported this.
The parties discussed the implementation of existing projects and programs financed by the fund in Tajikistan in the areas of agriculture, environmental protection, and climate change, as well as prospects for cooperation until 2030.
Sheralizoda expressed satisfaction with the level of partnership with the fund and noted that the republic is implementing the state investment project "Community-Based Agriculture Support+" (CASP+). It aims to transition to sustainable development, taking into account the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the implementation of climate-resilient agricultural technologies.
In turn, Telaig reported that IFAD, together with the Committee, developed a new grant project, “Restoration of Ecological Systems and Agricultural Sustainability in Tajikistan,” which was approved by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and will be financed through grant funds.
The parties placed particular emphasis on the preparation of a new Country Program for 2026–2030. The Committee Chairman proposed focusing on projects related to climate change adaptation and expanding agricultural producers' access to modern technologies.
In addition, interaction within the framework of the preparation and implementation of Tajikistan’s updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as other issues related to environmental protection and climate risks, were discussed.
