Sergei Mironov, head of the A Just Russia – For Truth party, proposed a moratorium on granting citizenship and residence permits to migrants from Central Asian countries until 2030.
According to the parliamentarian, the mass influx of migrant workers poses a threat to Russia's national security and increases social tension.
"In the first six months of this year, approximately 114,000 work permits were issued to foreigners, which is 1.5 times more than in the same period last year. Currently, there are over 6.5 million migrants in the country. Those who are not officially employed use our social infrastructure—hospitals and schools—which creates additional burdens and fuels public discontent," Mironov stated.
The politician emphasized that he had previously introduced similar initiatives—in 2022 and 2024—but they had not gained support. Under the current circumstances, he noted, the issue requires closer consideration.
Mironov's proposal is planned to be discussed during further parliamentary work.
