During a working visit to the Baljuvan district of the Khatlon region, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon inspected the construction project for the Baljuvan-Sari Khosor highway, the presidential press service reported .
This project is a key one for the development of the region's transport infrastructure. Its implementation will ensure consistent and high-quality transport links between the villages, towns, and rural jamoats of the Baljuvan district and Sari Khosor, improve living conditions for the local population, and expand the region's socioeconomic opportunities.
The 54.1-kilometer-long, 10-meter-wide highway project is divided into two sections: Section A (30 km) and Section B (24.1 km). This division is due to the large volume of work and challenging climatic conditions. All design work has been completed, and a positive state expert review has been received.
In addition to road reconstruction, the project includes the construction of bridges, drainage pipes, barriers, pedestrian walkways, roadside embankments, lighting, and fill work. The construction is being financed by the Government of Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
President Rahmon noted that timely and high-quality construction of the highway will ensure efficient transportation of residents, the use of agricultural land, the harvesting of fruits and vegetables, and the development of the tourism sector.
The Baljuvan region boasts unique natural beauty, waterfalls, mountain rivers, healing springs, and historical monuments. By government decree, it has been declared a tourist zone, so the construction of international-standard roads is facilitating the development of tourism infrastructure and attracting foreign and domestic tourists.
Emomali Rahmon emphasized that developing the local road network is a priority for the government's constructive policy, as roads not only provide connections between settlements but also create the foundation for socio-economic development, strengthening national unity, and promoting rural prosperity.
