The Qubodiyon District Department of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case for extortion using video recording, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan reported.
According to the agency, a 57-year-old local resident reported to the police that a 30-year-old woman with a previous conviction, along with a 57-year-old accomplice, had entered his store in August 2025. Investigators believe the woman intentionally harassed the victim and secretly filmed the incident. The man then used the recording to demand 10,000 somoni from the victim.
On September 5, 2025, the suspects came to the store to collect the extorted money. The victim handed over 6,000 somoni and promised to collect the remaining 4,000 somoni in a few days to destroy the video recording.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspects under Part 2 of Article 250 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. The investigation is ongoing.
Law enforcement agencies urge citizens not to give in to threats and to immediately contact the police in such cases.
