Tajik Greco-Roman wrestler Makhdi Barotov won a bronze medal in the 55 kg weight category at the World Youth Wrestling Championships in Athens, Greece. This was reported by the Wrestling Federation of Tajikistan.
In the first round of the competition, Barotov won a confident victory over Giorgi Chachua from Georgia with a score of 4:2, after which he continued his confident performance and in the second round, in less than a minute, performed a technical move, ending the fight with a touch in a duel with a representative of Turkey.
In the quarterfinals, the Tajik wrestler demonstrated an absolute advantage, beating his opponent from Bulgaria with a score of 8:0. However, in the semifinals, he lost to a wrestler from Kazakhstan named Askari and was forced to fight for the bronze medal.
In the decisive fight for third place, Makhdi Barotov demonstrated a high level of preparation and perseverance, defeating Azerbaijani wrestler Nikhat Bakhmanov with a score of 9:5, thereby winning the first medal for the Tajikistan team at the current championship.
In addition, two more Tajik wrestlers fought at the championship. In the weight category up to 65 kg, Shokhidzhakhon Boboev won two victories in a row: first over the representative of Turkey Mesut (9:2), then over the Japanese athlete Omari (4:1), but in the quarterfinals he lost to the European champion Tavberidze from Georgia with a score of 0:7 and finished the performance at the tournament without a medal.
In the 80 kg weight category, Muhammad Sultonzoda lost to Armenian wrestler Mehrian in the first round with a score of 1:3 and was unable to continue participating in the tournament, since his opponent was defeated in the next round and, according to the tournament rules, did not advance the Tajik athlete to the consolation round.
