Employees of the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan saved a woman from drowning after she jumped into the Vakhsh River in the Khatlon region. This was reported on Friday by the press service of the regional department of the Committee for Emergency Situations.
The incident occurred on July 19 at about 18:20 in the Kushoniyon district. As specified by the department, 28-year-old resident of the village of Guliston, jamoat named after Sadriddin Aini, Khuroson district, Abdurasulova B.A., a mother of five children, for unknown reasons jumped from a road bridge into the Vakhsh River.
“Employees of the Rescue Department of the Khatlon Main Directorate of the Emergency Situations Committee, who promptly arrived at the scene, found the woman 500–600 meters downstream during the search and rescue operation and pulled her out of the water alive,” the committee reported.
The woman was given first aid and was then hospitalized at the central hospital in the village of Bokhtariyon, Kushoniyon district. The victim's condition is assessed as stable.
The department recalled that this is the second such case in the last two months. In June of this year, in the Farkhor district, a woman with four children also tried to commit suicide by jumping into the Surkhob River. Unfortunately, not everyone was saved then.
The Emergency Situations Committee calls on citizens to be attentive to the psycho-emotional state of their loved ones and to promptly seek help from the appropriate services.
