Across most of Tajikistan, abnormally hot weather will persist from July 19 to 23, caused by a persistent invasion of dry and hot air masses, the Hydrometeorology Agency of Tajikistan reported.
According to weather forecasters, the cause of the latest heat wave was the persistent invasion of dry and hot air masses that formed over Central Asia. Air temperatures in the southern and central regions of the republic are expected to reach critical levels.
Thus, in the valleys of the Khatlon region, the temperature will rise to +41…+46 degrees, in the regions of republican subordination – to +39…+44, in the valley regions of the Sughd region – to +38…+43 degrees. In the foothill and mountainous regions of the country, the temperature is expected to be within +35…+40 degrees.
The Hydrometeorology Agency warned that the ongoing heat and accelerated melting of snow and glaciers significantly increase the risk of glacial mudflows. The threats are most acute in the western regions of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, as well as the foothill and mountainous regions of the Sughd Region and the republican subordination.
“Such mudflows can lead to a rise in water levels in mountain rivers, creating a threat to the lives of the population, as well as damage to transport and energy infrastructure, disruption of irrigation and loss of agricultural land,” the Agency clarified.
Citizens are advised to limit their exposure to the open sun during the daytime, especially children and the elderly, to stay hydrated, to use sun protection, and to refrain from unnecessary travel to mountainous and foothill areas.
Competent services have been instructed to take all necessary measures to monitor potentially dangerous areas and respond promptly to possible emergency situations.
