The active harvesting campaign of vegetable crops continues in Tajikistan. Since the beginning of the current year, over 537.8 thousand tons of vegetables have been harvested in the republic, the Ministry of Agriculture of Tajikistan reported.
Onions remain the leader in terms of harvest volume — about 283 thousand tons, which confirms their status as one of the country's main agricultural exports. Carrots and cucumbers are in second and third place in terms of harvest — 63 thousand and 50 thousand tons, respectively. In addition, 49 thousand tons of tomatoes and 31 thousand tons of cabbage were harvested.
The ministry notes that to date, harvesting has been completed on 15 thousand hectares of sown area out of a total of 42 thousand hectares, which indicates that the harvesting process is ongoing.
It should be noted that since 2013, a special program has been in effect that allows fruit and vegetable exporters from Tajikistan to transport products via Russian railways with a 50% discount. This benefit significantly reduces logistics costs and promotes the development of the country's agricultural exports.
Thus, successful harvesting of vegetable crops and support for export routes create the preconditions for strengthening Tajikistan’s agricultural sector and increasing its economic resilience.
